Paddy (Oryza sativa) is India's largest food crop, feeding over a billion people. India produces approximately 130 million tonnes of rice annually and is the world's largest rice exporter. The Kharif crop (June–November) accounts for ~85% of production; the Rabi crop (winter rice) is grown in eastern India.
